World Cup 2022

South Korea made the best 16. The dramatic goal at 90+1 min and the 8 minutes of long waiting for injury time of the Uruguay vs. Gana match finally made Korea proceed to the knockout stage.

It was 2002 - Korean and Japan World Cup. I've been to Incheon Munhak stadium to watch the South Korea vs. Portugal. Ji-Sung Park scored a goal that brought Korea's 1:0 win, and it took Korea to the knockout stage. I saw the goal right behind Ji-Sung Park (from the stand). It was an unforgettable moment in my life. And this year, Korea made it again for the first time in 12 years, and the opponent was Portugal again. It is interesting and ironic to see history repeats itself.

Although my favorite sport is baseball (MLB), and the runner-up would be football (not soccer), the World Cup always has been very special to me. I hate nationalism, but it is the only place nationalism has any meaning in me. It might have been carved into my life or my gene.

Korea meets Brazil in the next round tomorrow. Wish for another great game. One more game till the end.
